Thursday, July 17th, 2008--First Two Days Thoughts

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the long wait, but here's my first two days thoughts while in Ghana. I'll post more when they come. Thanks for the wait!

Monday, May 19th, 2008—Day 1

Right now we’re on the plane from New York City to Accra. I thought I heard we either been on the plane for six hours or we have six hours left. That really puts us into Tuesday, but I haven’t slept since 3:45 this morning and only working off of about five hours of sleep. Just can’t sleep. The seat in front of me keeps pushing into my knees, so I have that being rammed into my knees. There’s background noise. There’s light. I should of brought my iPod for I can listen to ’60 Minutes’ to fall asleep. Today’s been super long… It’s a sight flying through clouds and flying over them. Shared a room with Simon last night. He’s my “sitting buddy” from Atlanta to New York City, and New York City to Accra. He’s a nice guy. Nate is my “plane buddy,” the guy who I look after and he looks after me to make sure each other’s around. Fart, I wish I can fall asleep. I don’t know why, but it has been hard to fall asleep lately. Poop, I’m super tired. Well, I’m gonna rap this up for I can try to fall asleep. It’s just hard to keep my eyes open. Hopefully, good night.

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008—Day 2

Today was when we landed in Ghana. We landed around 7:35ish this morning, which would put the time back at home to be 2:35ish in the morning! The plane ride wasn’t too fun, didn’t get much sleep, but that’s expected. Stayed at a bus station for a couple of hours until we got our bus from Accra to Cape Coast. That was about a two and a half hour bus ride. I started to sing to the music playing, I think it was a Rod Stewart song, I can’t remember, but Blake did look back to give me a look like if I had lost it. Then Rod Stewart’s “First Cut Is the Deepest” played and Joel and I started to sing to him. The drivers over here are crazy. Our bus driver honk’s his horn a lot and passed a lot of people in a 2-lane road. Some of the villages we passed looked pretty bad. Blake and I think they don’t have running water. That’s hard to see. Called back home tonight and talked to Ma at work. It was 3:30 pm there, so that would put us at 8:30 pm when I called home. It was weird to call home and it being a long distance call. It’s humid here. It was mid 70’s when we got off the plane. Probably should be off to bed, but I don’t think I can fall asleep, even though I’ve been sleep deprived. But, hey, you’re only young once, right? And how often are you in Africa, right? Plus it’s around 4:30 pm in the after noon back at home. But I’m sure once I lay down I’ll be out… Sun sat at 6:30 pm tonight. That was weird. But we’re in Cape Coast, baby! It’s kind of weird to know I’m in Africa… But I’ll rap this up now for the night. Good night.
